Quick summary. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a 100% centrally-funded income-support scheme that pays ₹6,000 per year to every eligible landholding farmer family, in three equal DBT installments of ₹2,000 every four months. The 22nd installment was released by the Prime Minister on 13 March 2026 from Guwahati — over ₹18,640 crore transferred to 9.32 crore farmer families. Apply mode: Online via pmkisan.gov.in → New Farmer Registration, or through any nearby CSC. eKYC is mandatory before each installment.

PM-KISAN is the Government of India’s flagship direct-income-support programme for cultivators. Launched on 1 December 2018 and officially announced in the interim Union Budget of February 2019, the scheme replaces the old patchwork of input subsidies with a clean, universal cash transfer made directly into the bank account of the farmer — Aadhaar-seeded, Aadhaar-authenticated, and verified against state land records.

The idea is straightforward: every farmer family that owns cultivable land, regardless of crop or holding size, receives ₹6,000 a year in three tranches timed to the kharif, rabi and zaid sowing seasons. There is no application fee, no commission, and — after the recent face-authentication app — no biometric scanner required.

Who is eligible?

Educational Qualification

Not applicable

Age Limit (As on Date of registration)

18 to 120 Years

Other Requirements

  • Nationality: Indian citizen
  • Family must own cultivable land — recorded in state/UT land records in the family's name
  • 'Family' = husband + wife + minor children (one PM-KISAN benefit per family, not per land parcel)
  • Land holding size has no minimum — even sub-marginal farmers (<1 acre) qualify
  • Aadhaar must be seeded with the bank account; bank account must be active and DBT-enabled
  • Institutional landholders (companies, trusts, cooperatives) are NOT eligible
  • Constitutional post holders, serving/retired Group A/B government employees, income-tax payers and professionals (doctors/CAs/lawyers) practising under their profession are excluded
  • Pensioners drawing monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more are excluded (except multi-tasking staff / Class IV)

In simple terms. If your family’s name is on the land records (patta/khasra/khatauni) and you do not fall in any of the excluded categories above, you qualify — irrespective of how small the holding is. The land must be agricultural; tenant farmers without recorded ownership are not covered by PM-KISAN.

Frequently asked questions

1. Who is eligible for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi 2026?
Every Indian farmer family that owns cultivable land recorded in their family's name in the state land records. There is no minimum land size. Excluded categories: institutional landholders, income-tax payers, government employees of Group A/B, constitutional post holders, professionals practising under their profession, and pensioners drawing ₹10,000/month or more (except Class IV staff).
2. How much money do farmers get per year?
₹6,000 per family per year, paid in three equal DBT installments of ₹2,000 every four months. The amount is credited directly to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
3. When was the 22nd installment released?
On 13 March 2026, the Prime Minister released the 22nd installment from Guwahati, Assam — over ₹18,640 crore transferred to more than 9.32 crore farmer families in a single click via DBT.
4. Is eKYC mandatory for PM Kisan in 2026?
Yes. eKYC must be completed for every installment. You can do it online via OTP at pmkisan.gov.in, biometrically at any CSC, or — new in 2026 — via face authentication on the official PM-KISAN mobile app, which uses your phone camera.
5. Can tenant farmers or sharecroppers apply?
No. PM-KISAN is restricted to landholding farmers whose names appear in the state land records. Tenant farmers and sharecroppers without recorded ownership are not eligible under the central PM-KISAN scheme. Some states run parallel income-support schemes (e.g., Andhra Pradesh's Rythu Bharosa) that cover tenants.
6. How do I check my PM Kisan beneficiary status?
Go to pmkisan.gov.in → Farmers Corner → Beneficiary Status and enter your Aadhaar number, account number, or registered mobile number. The dashboard shows the status of each installment, eKYC, and Aadhaar-bank seeding.
7. Why was my installment stopped or rejected?
The most common reasons are (1) eKYC not completed, (2) Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account, (3) land record mismatch in the state portal, (4) PAN matched with an income-tax return (auto-flagged), or (5) duplicate enrolment in the same family. Each has a corrective option on the dashboard.
8. Is the ₹6,000 income from PM-KISAN taxable?
No. PM-KISAN is a welfare cash transfer and is fully exempt from income tax. It does not need to be reported as income in your ITR.
9. Can both husband and wife in a farmer family receive ₹6,000 each?
No. The scheme defines 'family' as husband + wife + minor children. The benefit is paid once per family, not per individual landholder, even if both spouses own land separately.
10. Is there a deadline to apply for PM-KISAN?
No. PM-KISAN is an open-ended, rolling scheme. You can register any day on pmkisan.gov.in. Whenever you complete registration + state verification + eKYC, you start receiving installments from the next scheduled DBT cycle.

  • Land seeding drive: State revenue departments are reconciling Bhulekh / Bhoomi records with PM-KISAN beneficiary lists to remove ineligible entries; corrections must be done by the farmer at the tehsil within 30 days of any land record not found notice.
